The issue of Air pollution is a big topic on everyones mind along with global warming, the Australian Government has introduced national policies to attempt to reduce emmissions in these three areas:
Transport: Initiatives nation wide have been introduced to help lessen the impact of road transport on environmental quality, the promotion of bicycle use and public transport has been improved slightly.
Residential: The governement strongly urges that people cut down on their use of woodfire heaters as they contribute greatly to air pollution and it can cause respiritry problems
Industry: Emmissions from larger industries are reported under the Nation Pollutant Inventory and are subject to State/ Territory control programmes

The government has an organisation called the NPI (National Pollution Inventory) Which is in charge of tracking pollution Across Australia this group gathers the information on toxic substances emmited to our environment from industries and makes it available for everyone to see. All the levels of government agreed to a legislation called National Environment protection measures (NEPM's) have been created to manage aspects of the environment. All Australian industries are also required to monitor, measure and report on theur emmissions under this legislation.
Overall the topic of air quality has been addressed, but the government website has barely any information on what they are going to do to fix air polltuion. They have minimal proposed plans of attack, and many different tips on what we can do to help the environment. But the government can't just rely on the people to do little things they have to take action and start funding projects for environmentally friendly alternatives for energy. It is hard with coal being worth so much and Australia having the majority of the worlds coal, but is it better to have a cleaner healthier environment or money.
